In 1895, the Lumiere Brothers invented Cinema in La Ciotat. The « Berceau du Cinema » Festival was designed to pay tribute to the Lumiere’s invention and it focuses on the actors’, film makers’ and scriptwriters’ first achievements.

Fights on the ground and on the sea, historical reconstitutions of everyday life scenes, traditional jubilation, fire shows, big parades…
More than 1.000 dressed-up characters (noblemen, burghers, artisans, peasants, fishermen, corsairs, pirates, and beggars) go through the door of time, where the residents’ audacity and the women braveness protect the city from this terrible affliction : the plague.
